UNRI Breaks Muri's Record Again Through Riau's Typical Food

unri. ac.id A total of 10,000 Bugi Lopek typical of Kampar Regency, presented by the academic community of the University of Riau (Unri) through the University Student Executive Board (BEM). This activity was held on Tuesday (6/8/2019) in the open space of the Bina Widya Unri Campus for two days starting from 5-6 August 2019.

The Chancellor of the University of Riau, Prof. Dr. Ir Aras Mulyadi DEA, said this activity is a form of Unri's efforts to invite the younger generation to know and love the food of their own nation. introduction and providing insight into the culture that exists in Indonesia, especially Riau Province.

“Lopek which is interpreted in Indonesian is “Lepat”, while Bugi means “Ketan”, which means “lepat sticky rice”. Lopek bugi was originally a typical food served to the nobility. Where, lopek bugi has become a mandatory dish on big celebration days such as religious and cultural events," explained Aras.

This activity was also carried out in order to break the MURI record (World Record Museum-Indonesia). The organizers served 10,000 Lopek Bugi made from several lopek bugi medium businesses in Kampar Regency. Then, the Lopek bugi meal was simultaneously held together with 6,627 new students and other participants.

"By registering it as a MURI record, it will increase the income of micro, small and medium enterprises and also raise the treasures of Riau's culinary specialties, which previously UNRI had also held the presentation of sago noodles which were listed as MURI. This indicates that there are many Riau specialties that need to be exposed,” explained Aras.

"From this activity, it can also stimulate the economy through the tourism sector of Riau Province at the national and international level which is organized by the University of Riau as "University of the Heart of the Riau People's Heart," said the Unri Chancellor.

Deputy Governor of Riau Brigadier General TNI Edy Afrizal Natar Nasution SIP who was also present at this activity, said that this activity was certainly valuable, especially in an effort to promote one of the typical cuisines of Kampar Regency.

"It is also a matter of pride for all of us that one of the typical cuisines of the Kampar district will be recorded by the Indonesian MURI," he said.

Furthermore, Edy Natar, said that we hope that this event will increase local wisdom in Riau Province. Besides being recorded on the MURI record, this activity is expected to be a means in an effort to introduce the typical food of Kampar Regency.

This will be a tourism effect, especially attracting tourist visits to Riau Province in the future. On the other hand, culinary wealth needs to get appreciation from the people of Riau itself first, so that this culinary will truly become the host of its own house and be able to attract culinary food lovers.

"The opportunity to organize this event can also be used by business entrepreneurs among students, because there are many types of local food that can be promoted as quality culinary," he said.

“Everything in front of us, if managed properly, will be an opportunity that can improve the economy. This moment is one of the first steps to increase innovation,” said Edy.
