unri.ac.id Following up on the implementation of the "Planting 1000 Trees" movement activity at the University of Riau (UR) which is planned for Thursday, March 2, 2017, the organizing team has confirmed that a number of UR partners will take part and be present in a series of activities themed "Optimizing the Role of the Stakeholders Towards a Green Pekanbaru".
Through the movement of planting 1000 trees with the name "Green Campus based on conservation and Malay culture” which will be held by UR on Thursday, March 2, 2017, UR is collaborating with four external partners of UR, including the government, including the Indonesian National Police, the Riau Provincial Government, Korem 031 Wirabima, the Riau Regional Police, the Riau High Prosecutor's Office, the Pekanbaru City Government, the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA), the Indragiri Rokan River Basin Management Center (BPDAS), the Riau Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK) and the City of Pekanbaru.
"In addition to the government, we also collaborate with banking institutions, including Bank Riau Kepri, Bank Panin Pekanbaru branch, Bank BNI 46 Pekanbaru branch, Bank BRI Syariah, and Bank BTN Pekanbaru branch. We also facilitate the private sector for this environmental movement, including the Limited Liability Company (PT) Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP), Telkomsel, PT Elkos, PT Perkebunan Nusantara V, and PT Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper (IKPP), as well as the UR academic community," explained Dr. Suwondo MSi, Head of the UR Environmental Study Center.
From the results of the meeting of the activity organizing team Green Campus based on conservation and Malay culture which was held on Monday (13/2) in the Multipurpose Hall, Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) Building, UR in the Bina Widya UR Campus complex, UR facilitated several locations for planting plant seedlings, including in the area eco edu park, the Grand Gasing Millennium (GGM) building complex, the camping ground area, and the Fruit Park area in the UR Campus area.
"Through these four locations, we will plant various plant groups, including local plants, fruit trees, and shade trees. Within these three plant groups, we will plant 17 species: meranti, tampul, kruing, lime wood, binuang geronggang, bintangur, agarwood, chestnut, durian, cempedak, senul, trembesi, mangosteen, rambai, pulasan, and soursop," explained Suwondo.
"We're also not limiting the number of partners who will join this movement. Therefore, we will be conducting outreach and inviting other parties to contribute and take an interest in preserving, caring for, and protecting the survival of various plant species in order to develop green spaces on this earth," Suwondo said.
