The current rapid pace of development demands that people be more responsive in adapting to society. Advances in technology, social science, and even economics significantly influence people's well-being, particularly in meeting their basic needs. However, the high unemployment rate and limited job opportunities in Indonesia pose significant obstacles to economic advancement.
The strength of a country or region needs to be supported by all existing elements. Hence the concept of " Pentahelix ," where government, society, academics, entrepreneurs, and the media unite to advance development. This was conveyed by the Rector of the University of Riau (UNRI), Prof. Dr. Ir. Aras Mulyadi, at the Student Creative Festival and the inauguration of the C Chevron Corner , a hybrid event , a combination of online and offline, at the UNRI Educational Quality Assurance and Development Institute (LPPMP) building.
Entrepreneurship activities have been continuously developed within the UNRI student community since its inception. This development recognizes the importance of entrepreneurship and career development for students. "Over the past two years, the Ministry has reaffirmed the importance of entrepreneurship and career development for students with the launch of the independent learning campus," said the Rector at the event held on Tuesday (August 3, 8).
"The concept of the independent campus aims to encourage students to master various knowledge that will be useful for entering the workforce. The Independent Campus gives students the opportunity to choose their courses and the freedom to take credits outside their study program. The three semesters in question consist of one semester of opportunity to take courses outside their study program and two semesters of learning activities outside of the university, specifically for developing entrepreneurship.
"UNRI's collaboration with Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI - currently called PT Chevron - ed. ) has been carried out for a long time in various ways, including in student career development, scholarships, incubators, entrepreneurship development, and including CPI in supporting the UNRI Language Center which we still utilize today," explained the Chancellor.
"Through supporting activities for entrepreneurial activities in the form of student creative week events, it is hoped that it will increase student creativity in terms of entrepreneurship and seize opportunities during the current pandemic," explained the Professor of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs.
Furthermore, the Chancellor added, along with the inauguration of the Chevron Corner at this event, it is hoped that it will also serve as a source of information for the wider public and the campus community regarding Chevron 's supporting activities . This information can be used by students and faculty to develop best practices for other organizations.
On the same occasion, the Head of LPPMP UNRI, Prof. Dr. Zulkarnain MM, said that the partnership program with PT Chevron was very helpful for UNRI's performance regarding how many UNRI students were entrepreneurs, as well as providing opportunities to carry out soft skills training for students in this case, students who could become entrepreneurs emerged, he said.
"Furthermore, during today's series of activities, the winners of the Creative Entrepreneurship Week competition were also announced. This competition aims to foster entrepreneurial spirit among students, who are expected to work beyond corporate roles. This entrepreneurship competition continues to be driven by collaboration between various parties to encourage the emergence of young entrepreneurs. These results will also inform the development of UNRI's business incubator, enabling it to be fully utilized," Zulkarnain explained.
Also present in this activity were the Vice Chancellor for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Iwantono Mphil, Vice Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems Prof. Dr. Syaiful Bahri MSi, Head of the Center for Career and Entrepreneurship Development (P2K2) Dr. Alvi Furwanti SE MM CMM, Deputy of P2K2 Ir. At the end of the activity, the Head of P2K2 UNRI Dr Alvi Furwanti SE MM and Deputy P2K2 Ir Sukemi Indra Saputra announced the winners of the Video Making Category for Beginner Campus Entrepreneurs, which was won by Lady Asia through the video Original Mango Seed Nuggets , and the Experienced Campus Entrepreneur category was won by Solihi through the video D'Jamuran Pekanbaru.
