The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of the University of Riau (Unri) once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting student creativity while addressing mental health issues. On Wednesday (September 10, 9), the Lancang Kuning Team of FISIP Unri held a screening of a docudrama video entitled "About Understanding" at the FISIP Unri Postgraduate Building, Public Administration Doctoral Program (PDAP) Room 2025.
This docudrama, created for the Student Digital Innovation Competition (LIDM), explores themes highly relevant to today's student population: overthinking and mental health. The work chronicles the journey of a student trapped in a state of overthinking and how he emerges from it with the help of his friends.
Dr. Chelsy Yesicha, Ssos MIKom, Head of the Multimedia Communication Science Laboratory, expressed her high appreciation for the Lancang Kuning Team's achievements. "I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to the Lancang Kuning Team for reaching this stage. They are already 98% complete. The topics raised in this docudrama video are also very relevant to what we are currently experiencing, namely overthinking and mental health," she said in her opening remarks.
This screening activity has a strategic objective, as explained by Dr. Tantri Puspita Yazid, SIKom MA, the Person in Charge of LIDM FISIP Unri. "The actual purpose of this video screening is to measure the impact of the video that has been produced. What is its usefulness and how much this work can be known by others because of its digital format," she explained.
The faculty's full support was conveyed by Dr. Saiman Pakpahan, SIP, MSi, as Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation at FISIP Unri. "LIDM activism at FISIP Unri is a great anchor for Unri. With the academic conversion mechanism provided, in accordance with the achievements obtained, including this LIDM program," he emphasized, while emphasizing the faculty's commitment to supporting the development of student talent.
The Lancang Kuning team, consisting of Peter Yohansen Sipahutar as team leader, Nur Wachida Olivia, Malvin Hariyanto, and Amirul Firdaus, chose to raise the topic of overthinking based on personal experience and observations of the surrounding environment. Peter Yohansen Sipahutar, the team leader, explained the background of choosing this theme: "Because I have a background in music video production, and because there is a musical work 'Tentang Mengerti' we tried to work on it. And coincidentally when we were going to produce this video, our team was overthinking so the idea came up to work on this musical work 'Tentang Mengerti' by looking at cases of overthinking around us."
The quality of the acting in this docudrama video also received special attention, as expressed by Zaki Fadhillah Andri, who plays Bara, the main character in the story. "Because of research and help from Peter as the Head of the Lancang Kuning Team and also based on my personal experience as a student and survivor of overthinking, it was not that difficult to play it," said Zaki, demonstrating that the authenticity of experience is a strength in conveying the message of this video.
The docudrama video “About Understanding” serves not only as a work of art, but also as an educational medium that highlights Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 3 on Healthy and Prosperous Life. Through this work, the Lancang Kuning Team strives to provide a positive perspective on the importance of maintaining mental health and seeking support from the surrounding environment when facing psychological stress. Dr. Saiman Pakpahan expressed his hope that “this year's LIDM FISIP Unri Competition can be better than the previous year and become champions at the national level,” showing high optimism about the potential of FISIP Unri students' work on the national stage.
