Muchtar Lutfi UR Multipurpose Forest Brings Benefits Across Generations

unri.ac.id Riau University (UR)'s commitment to preserving the environment includes reforestation of the Bina Widya UR campus in Simpang Baru, Panam, Pekanbaru, Riau. On Monday (November 27th), UR Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aras Mulyadi DEA, along with university and faculty leaders, planted trees in several prepared locations. The locations are in the Muchtar Lutfi Multipurpose Forest Development area, within the Bina Widya UR campus complex.

UR Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Aras Mulyadi DEA, conveyed the realization of the tree planting movement carried out through tree planting in a forest area named "Mukhtar Lutfi Multipurpose Forest Area" through a green open space management model based on local fruit plant conservation. This realization is the result of a collaboration between the University of Riau and the Indragiri Rokan River Basin and Protected Forest Management Agency (BPDASHL).

"The naming of the "Muchtar Lutfi Multipurpose Forest Area" is a tribute from the UR academic community to the first-term UR Rector, who has been fully dedicated to building UR to be more advanced and implementing the campus move from Gobah to Panam. The Muchtar Lutfi Multipurpose Forest will be filled with various fruit trees and plants. Hopefully, this activity will bring significant benefits in preserving the environment at UR," said the Rector.

Furthermore, this multipurpose forest has a tourism concept that can be utilized for academic activities, teaching, research, and even the general public. "Hopefully, UR will serve as a model practitioner in developing this educational environment as a milestone." Ggreen Campus "which has the concept of research, teaching and community service," explained Aras.

Ir. Mintarjo, MAA, Director of Forest Plant Seedlings at the Directorate General of Watershed Management and Protected Forests, also stated that this collaboration will provide numerous benefits, including education, research, development, and community service, aimed at enhancing tourism and forest conservation. "Indonesia is a paradise for this nation, with its rich natural resources and benefits. We live in a fertile land, but the productivity of cultivation activities remains largely neglected."

Furthermore, Mintarjo said that this activity is a concrete form of managing natural resources properly, where with a relatively large area of ​​land it is necessary to maintain and preserve the sustainability of the environment.
