UR Chancellor Candidate Debate for the 2014 – 2018 Period Presents Three Riau Leaders as Panelists

www.unri.ac.id – The Rector Selection Committee for the 2014 – 2018 University Chancellor held another presentation of the vision, mission and work programs of the rector candidates on Tuesday (20/5) at the UR Rectorate Hall. The event, which was formatted in the form of a Rector Candidate debate, presented three panelists who were Riau figures. They are Saleh Djasit who is the former Governor of Riau, Professor M Diah who is the former Chancellor of UR and Arifin Mansur who has served as Vice Rector III during Prof. M Diah's leadership.

This debate event is the last in a series of three debate events that were previously held at the UR campus in Gobah and at the Faculty of Medicine. However, specifically for this last event, there were several stages and panelists, formatted in the form of a debate. Attended by the Deans, Heads of Institutions and Heads of Agencies, lecturers, employees and dozens of students at the University of Riau.

The debate started at 09.00 WIB with remarks from the Chair of the UR Chancellor Selection Committee, Professor Isyandi. In his remarks, Isyandi hoped that the three candidates for Chancellor would hold a polite debate and promote a polite and dignified Malay culture.

In the first session, the three candidates for UR Chancellor were given the opportunity to convey their vision, mission and work program, given 8 minutes each.

In the second session, the three panelists asked each candidate for the Chancellor. The atmosphere became more interesting with the moderator of the debate hosted by Drs Syafri Harto MSi who was able to melt the initially tense atmosphere into a more relaxed atmosphere.

Panelists Ask, Chancellor Candidates Answer:

The question and answer session between the panelists for the three rector candidates was even more exciting when Saleh Djasit asked questions about how the three rector candidates would do if they were elected to be the number one person at UR in the business of developing entrepreneurship in the campus environment.

Professor Aras Mulyadi, who was given the first opportunity, stated that the first thing to do was to transmit the entrepreneurial spirit to the lecturers as the first person who would also have an effect on students. Still with the same question, Dr Ali Yusri said he would put more emphasis on clear concepts and continued with firm governance. Meanwhile, Dr. Yanuar answered by emphasizing the budget system that must be clarified and strengthened by disbursing entrepreneurship assistance funds to students who have the potential and want to develop businesses.

An equally interesting question was asked by the former number one person at UR, professor M Diah, where he asked about how to use the assets that were already in UR, especially regarding the UR Marine Science department building in Dumai but neglected. Appearing to answer first is Dr. Ali Yusri.

“The first thing to do is to manage the existing facilities and infrastructure, be it buildings, classrooms. Then re-enable the assets that are not paid attention to, such as the building in Dumai.” said Ali Yusri.

Followed by Professor Aras Mulyadi DEA. “For this, the first thing is of course the need for a commitment from the elected Chancellor and supported by the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, especially in the case of the building in Dumai. Together we are committed to the development and reuse of existing assets.” said Aras Mulyadi.

The same question ends with an answer by Dr Yanuar MSi. “Instead of being abandoned and not being used, it would be better if the building was used as an advocacy school and community academy, training and practicum. More appropriate and useful," said Yanuar.

In the next stage, each candidate for Chancellor was asked to choose 1 of 10 questions in the form of a video and the debate ended with a group photo between the three candidates for Chancellor and the three Panelists and the UR Chancellor Selection Committee.

“We are grateful that the event went smoothly today. With this event, we want to involve the UR environment in particular in the big event that we will hold on June 9th, so that we know more about the vision, mission and work programs of the three rector candidates who will develop UR in the future," said Professor Isyandi at the end of the event, responding to expectations about the event. ongoing debate. **(Hizra BPTIK UR)
